Muscle Cars are a classification of sports cars known for having excessively powerful engines. While many muscle cars are American, there are a handful of non-American vehicles with the same muscle car tendencies.

The first muscle cars date back to the 1950s, with many American sedans and coupes using large V8 engines that output high horsepower numbers. However, during the mid 1970s, emissions regulations caused smaller, weaker engines that were designed to cooperate with the new regulations. This period of time was seen as a dark age for muscle cars, as they essentially weren't very "muscular." Within the past two decades, however, muscle cars have made a return, with models such as the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger being revived, featuring designs inspired by classic muscle cars. Nowadays, though, the muscle car era is coming to an end, with every muscle car model facing discontinuation with the exception of the Ford Mustang
