Crates (also referred to as Cash Crates) are a feature in Driving Empire that was added on February 3, 2023. These are purchased with in-game cash or Robux and used to unlock exclusive vehicles. The cash crate also features numerous vehicles that can be purchased via the dealership.
To buy and open a crate, players can click on the yellow button with a briefcase icon. They can also buy a crate by going to the dealership and stepping on the yellow pad with text above saying "WIN THIS CAR!". Either way, the UI will pop up, listing all the featured vehicles they can obtain from the crates they will roll.
Once the player has purchased a crate, a new UI will pop up. This will roll through the various cars for selection. Once the arrow hits the car, the player will receive it automatically in their inventory. They may either close out of the UI, or perhaps roll another time by purchasing another crate to win another vehicle. If the player rolls a vehicle they already own, they will be given a percentage of the vehicle's price in cash from the dealership.
Vehicles[]
These are the list of vehicles that the player can obtain from spinning crates.
Each roll for the Standard Crate costs $58,750. Players who receive a duplicate will be given 50% of the vehicle's price in cash from the dealership. There is a total of 15 vehicles than can be rolled from the standard crates, with 13 of them being on-sale in the dealership.
The overall probability of obtaining all of these vehicles is 70%.

Initial backlash[]
Over a month later since the partnership announcement, on Feburary 3, 2023, the Voldex developers released the new crates system, which can be used to obtain new vehicles. However, the feature generated a negative community response due to the fact that the feature essentially acted like a gambling device. The feature was also heavily reliant on randomness and luck, which angered players even more. While some players were able to get the vehicles miraculously with only a few tries, the majority of players spent millions of in-game cash more than the actual value of the cars. Most players, which also include known Driving Empire YouTubers (e.g. GeneralKiko, ItsMatrix, GameTimeKyle, etc.) have condemned Voldex's implementation of this new feature and have called an immediate removal of it. Be that as it may, it has been claimed by the developers that the feature won't be going away anytime soon. Some players have also made some speculations that this feature may lead to the beginning of the downfall of Driving Empire due to this new feature.
Premium Crates backlash[]
On Feburary 24, 2023, a couple of weeks after the release of the Crates feature, the game announced a new update featuring 13 new vehicles and the new premium crate. All of the new vehicles were exclusive to the premium crate. Once again, this received heavy negative responses from the community. However, this time it was much more serious towards the Voldex developers, considering players were angered over the fact that the premium crate costed 649 with very low odds towards getting a good car. This has led to players in the Discord and Twitter to run amok and protest against the developers at Voldex for creating this update. Some of the players in the Discord were either handed out mutes or banned from the server. Furthermore, some players have decided to send e-mails to real life car brands that have vehicles offered inside the new lootboxes, due to their intellectual property’s unauthorized use. The game's update has also led to Bourgist, the original creator of the game, to leave the server in order to avoid harrassment and death threats by the players.
Removal[]
On November 22, 2023, LxstNick announced in the Official Driving Empire Discord that they will be effectively removing the crate system from the game. Players who owned any of the vehicles featured in the crates will be kept in their inventory. They were removed 2 days later in conjunction with the Licensed Paganis Update.
Trivia[]
- This feature is considered to be one of, if not, the most controversial features due to its mechanics. That said, it has been considered by players as a gambling feature as they're putting lots of money to obtain these vehicles.
- Due to this new system being very luck-based, not all players will have the same chance of getting these vehicles. Some players will get the rare and jackpot vehicles on their first few tries, while others will have to spend millions of in-game cash just to obtain these vehicles.
- Players have also called out the developers to delete the feature entirely from the game for its poor execution.
- This system was intentionally created to be a new way for obtaining exclusive vehicles, like the limited system in the dealership.
- This feature is disabled in some countries due to them having laws that bans lootboxes. However, players may be able to use a VPN to bypass this.
- The Crate system was most likely contributed by TamperedReality, a developer who works on ZO Samurai, which is also another game owned by Voldex and features the same crate system that is used in-game.
